I just finished listening to the audiobook The Mad Wife by Meagan Church because, look, I’m a sucker for a 1950s housewife storyline. The jacket describes it as “in the vein of The Bell Jar and The Hours,” which I would call… aspirational. Sure, the themes are similiar, but The Mad Wife has all the subtlety of the scabies currently running down my arms. There were some good twists, which saved it, but the writing did not impress. 2/5 stars.
(Yes, we’re going to move right past the scabies because %$&*#! %$&*#! %$&*#!)
