Hey friends, we’re gonna zip through this email today because let’s be honest, in these gorgeous early summer days we all have better things to do than stare at a screen on a weekend. But there is still some stuff I didn’t want you to miss — namely, this 1-hour writer’s workshop I’m hosting virtually next weekend.
When I say we are going to cram it all in. Buckle up, buttercups, because we’ll be covering the whole business side of writing in 60 minutes. Things like how to establish your byline and grow your CV, how to get an agent (and whether you need one), how to find the right publisher for your work, what to expect financially, how to grow your pesky platform issue, whether you have to be on social media, etc.
I feel really excited about this, because these are things I get asked all the time and as committed as I am to helping other writers succeed, its hard to be thorough when you’re texting into a DM or even responding to an email. So for $25 you can attend live or have access to the recording to watch later (or both!). And if money is too tight, just reach out to me and let me know. I have scholarship funds available through my incredible Patreon community.

Podcasts
I realized awhile ago that for my particular personality (read: personal neuroses), being a guest on podcasts is not my favorite medium. So I gave myself permission to not do a ton of them. But I know some of you love listening to interesting conversations while you commute to work or fold laundry or whatevs. If that’s you, here are a few I’ve done lately to discuss Feminist Prayers for My Daughter:

Every once in awhile I like to share things I’m loving lately, insignificant though they may be. Here’s a look at what’s giving me joy these days:
Rare Beauty - OK, the thing about me is that my fatal flaw is I’ll buy products from celebrities if I think they’re good humans. (Looking at you, JVN.) This is how I found myself trying Selena Gomez’s makeup line and dangit y’all if it’s not the greatest line for the most reasonable price! So far I’ve liked everything I’ve tried but the mascara and lip liner&stick are my faves.
Knix swim - Knix suits are the only ones I have (maybe the only ones I’ll ever have???) and I love them because the material is really high quality and the cut is just so snatched. I think all bodies somehow magically look good in Knix. This summer I bought this one.
Science Moms - After doing a partnership with Science Moms, I started following their Instagram and I’ve enjoyed the balance they strike between posting parenting humor and serious climate concern. There’s not a lot of places online where you can get that combo! The tone is relatable (they’re moms) but also legitimate (they’re scientists). You can get their updates here.
On Our Best Behavior - A kind reader Venmo’d me money this week with specific instructions to order this book with it. I complied and have I even started the book yet? No. Am I already obsessed with it and mad I didn’t think to write it? You bet.
Rope Sandals - Male readers, let it never be said that I never gave you anything. Eric bought a pair of these for himself last month and I was skeptical, but look, I’m a big girl and can admit when I’m wrong. These shoes are sustainably made and just kind of ooze coolness. Also I guarantee no one you know will have them. (They do have women’s too, but I think they’re hotter as men’s shoes. Just me?)
OK this ended up way too long.
Go get some Vitamin D, people!
XOXO,
Shannon
Thanks, Shannon! Lots of content in this “quickie!”
