I JUST got out my copy of The Artist’s way to read during lent and a new notebook for morning pages. Adding “candle watching” to my practices and just ordered the meditation cards.
"There is nothing to prove. We are only here to be." Amen!!! I'm going to spend time this Lent just "being"...maybe in front of a burning candle....thanks for the suggestions!
"We are only here to be." Oh Shannon, amen to all of this. I just told our dear Cameron Bellm the other day that for me, a woman recovering from ED, mental illness, and a lifetime of self-loathing, Lent feels downright dangerous. I can't think of things that are worse for me than fasting, contemplating my own sinfulness, and being surrounded by practices that all but encourage the scrupulousity I've struggled against for so long. But I can sit beside restful waters with The One Who Is Living Water. And watching a candle burn in the dark sounds pretty amazing, too.
All love to you this Lent. May we use this time to be gentle, and to hold on to Light in this darkness.
Morning Shannon. Yes, it's this week, and I've been waiting. I need Lent more than ever to transport myself into another world. Thanks for this contribution. It's beautiful, and I will be signing up.

Ah we are on the same wavelength! Love it.
Absolutely here for the candle burning practice.
Like, why make it hard?
“Forgive us, o God, for begrudging life.” Damn this gets me!
❤️❤️❤️
Why does candle watching have my name on it and why am I going to have to get up early to do it
It’s the low energy meditation we all need (and can actually handle.)

I hope it's a time of renewal for you!

Katie, I'm so glad you shared this and I hope others get the chance to read it here. This is a very important point and needs to be talked about more!
This is really beautiful! I love the permission for something as simple as candle watching 💕
So glad it's helpful!
Good words from a good heart, good mind, good soul.
Thank you!

Thanks Ida! Do you have any recommendations for practices that you’d add to my list? 😊
Nope, I think you covered it. I have a daily morning walk unless the weather is impossible. I call my nature walk a walk through God's Garden1
