Love the Zelda shrine comment, snap in our house, more Zelda than Marian shrine! Was teaching my littlest one about Joan of Arc yesterday as her name is Siún (Gaelic, similar to Sinead), and one of the closest translations is Joan.
Yes, Dublin mountains, near the suburbs. My youngest daughter is making her communion later this year, and next one up her confirmation, but as God is found in the mess, I find myself struggling to construct a sacred space for the year that is dog-proof!
Sure, you’d be very welcome, don’t find yourself in Ireland without making contact please! I’m currently scheming to get your feminist prayers book into my cousin’s suitcase when he goes home to California for visit in next few weeks.
Yes! My mum & I were looking up Thérèse of Lisieux ahead of her sermon this week. She was so young and so powerful. What she wrote is so beautiful.
(Have you heard of Saint Cuthbert of Holy Island who came out of the sea and was reputedly dried off by otters 🦦? I’m afraid to say this whole idea makes me roar with laughter. Otters? People, saints, we are weird.)
I also struggled (and still do a bit, tbh) with the very barfy flowery depictions of Therese. We became friends a few years ago when she basically stalked me spiritually until I started asking for her intercession. 😄 She is very persistent and spunky, and I suspect that the latter is partially due to not having any of the health problems in heaven that she suffered on earth.
I have to admit that I struggled with this post's title because the saints are so extremely alive to me, but I get it. Ya gotta reel people in! ;)
I, too, at first nearly-gagged at the perfect little image that Therese gets in the pious Catholic sphere, but lo and behold, she also introduced herself to me... now my heart has so much in common with her. Heather King's book, "Shirt of Flame" helped me a lot with that transition / transformation.

I loved Shirt of Flame too! It's been nearly 10 years since I've read it but if memory serves it was super down-to-earth and accessible.
