Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about following our creativity. The obvious culprit here is Liz Gilbert’s phenomenal book on the subject, Big Magic, which I spent the past few weeks reading in small bites because I didn’t want it to end. (If you haven’t read it, consider this your sign.) In the past few years I’ve worked a lot on trusting myself: my intuition, my desires, my gut. But I’m really only now realizing that I have a hard time trusting my creativity. I tend to play it safe and stay in my comfort zone with things I know I’m already good at and in which I am likely to succeed, at least creatively speaking.
This is wonderful! I had not come across our Madonna della Strada and I’m really excited to read more since reading your essay/latest column. Thank you so much! 🙏🏻
I LOVED Big Magic. The idea that creative ideas find their people was fascinating (and helped me act on some of the more outlandish thoughts that seemed to pop out of nowhere.) She calls it magic. I call it God. But it’s really all about the same thing…learning to listen to and trust our instincts.

Yes, she was new to me too! Apparently she's the patroness of the Jesuit order. I had never heard of her until this year but I really love that.
